Sad Crafting

As crafters can we truly express ourselves, all emotions good and bad? I don't believe that artists have a undisputed lock on the expression of emotion. We crafters can and should express our emotions through our crafting. So, I want to see some sad crafting, and not just the crafter was sad when the item was created but almost anyone would feel sad when seeing it. Is it possible? I’ve seen poignant scrapbooking pages. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen crafting that’s made me feel sad. Also, I don’t mean the colloquial meaning of the word, read: pathetic; when people say, “That’s just sad.” Unfortunately, there’s plenty of crafting like that.

Perhaps, since many crafts are utilitarian and we have to look at the projects possibly on a daily basis, we don’t want to be reminded of such sadness. But as crafters we should be able to express every emotion and convey those emotions to others, whether they like or not!

Do you have an example of sad crafting?

Share with us the story of your emotionally sad crafting. Maybe its an unfinished project of a deceased loved one that you incorporated into another craft. Or its a piece of history that you made into good art. Or a scrapbook page that pulls at the heartstrings and reminds us of the commonality of humanity. Tell us it's history, and how you crafted it.
