Sew these fun and easy Halloween Puppet/Treat Bags

This is a great project to sew for your special trick-or-treaters or an easy project to teach children how to sew either by hand or using the sewing machine. (Caution: Remember that a sewing machine has a very fast moving needle. Children should use it only with adult supervision.) Not only is it a bag for treats, it is a puppet to play with afterwards. I used felt. It’s a great fabric to begin with because it cuts well and does not fray. Many fabric stores carry in inexpensive 9x12" sheets in many colors.

Materials

Orange (2 sheets per puppet), green, brown, white (2 sheets per puppet), and black felt

Orange, green, brown, and black thread

Scissors

18" Orange ribbon

18" Black ribbon

Halloween Treats

Directions

Cut out felt in ghost or pumpkin shape using your hand as a measurement. Sew on features. For ghost, sew on eyes and mouth with black thread to make a face. For pumpkin, sew on eyes and mouth with brown thread and follow lines with orange thread to make pumpkin ridges. Assemble puppets. Sew an 1/8” along edge to close, leaving bottom open. Fill with treats. Tie tightly with ribbon.
